Ferry travel attracts a whole host of different travellers, from passengers, to pets, to…puffins? As part of a charity push for The Scottish Wildlife Trust, a life sized sculpture of a puffin will be sailing and taking on the challenging winter on a ferry which journeys between Aberdeen and the Northern Isles in Scotland. It is hoped the puffin’s adventures will raise awareness for the needs ot the Scottish Wildlife Trust, a charity which attempts to protect some of the most endangered wildlife is the wilderness of Scotland.
The puffin was expertly sculpted by Eddie Hallam, who often draws inspiration for his works from the wild birds to be found all over the Northern Isles. The idea for his puffin to set sail for the sake of charity was his own and he is delighted with the outcome, commenting: “The time the puffin sculpture spends at sea will radically change its appearance, to give us a small insight into what these small, hardy creatures endure on the open waters. This authenticity will hopefully make it more attractive to wildlife enthusiasts when it is auctioned to raise money for the Scottish Wildlife Trust next year.”
NorthLink offer some fantastic crossings from Aberdeen to the remote islands of Shetland and Orkney.
