The Passenger Shipping Association (PSA), has announced that the 2011 National Ferry Fortnight is scheduled to take place from the 14th May to the 28th May this year.
In what will be the third annual event of its kind staged in Britain, the 2011 National Ferry Fortnight is designed to highlight awareness of the ferry industry, by showcasing routes, services and ships available to passengers.
Aiming to increase the media exposure of Britain’s ferry industry, the National Ferry Fortnight will focus on the ‘ease, value and versatility’ of travelling by ferry. The ferry industry has enjoyed a profitable period of late, helping some 35 million passengers and 8 million light vehicles (cars, motorbikes, etc.) cross the seas surrounding Britain in 2010. Ferry travel received several boosts to trade last year, following the volcanic ash cloud and adverse wintry weather.
Bill Gibbons, the director of the PSA, said: “Britain’s ferry services offer a reliable, value for money and flexible way to travel. National Ferry Fortnight offers a real showcase for our industry to highlight the huge infrastructure and ship investment that has been committed to providing a relaxed and versatile way – particularly for families in their cars – to travel to and from our island shores.”
