DFDS Seaways has accepted bookings on three whisky experience trips on the Zeebrugge to Rosyth Scottish Viking ferry. Having teamed up with Fife Council and Diageo plc, the global alcoholic beverages firm, DFDS Seaways, plans to run the special three-trip service before the route closes next month.
DFDS Seaways’ Director of Passenger Services for Scotland to Belgium and the English Channel, Chris Newey, claimed that the purpose of the trips was to widen Europeans’ knowledge of and taste for Scottish whisky. Mr Newey said: “The trips aim to provide European travellers with a greater understanding and appreciation of Scottish whisky as well as raising awareness of Scotland’s extensive heritage, land and produce⦠[and] it would seem our European cousins’ love of whisky remains as strong as ever.”
The mixing of alcohol and ferry travel is a combination that many passengers have lived to regret. Nevertheless, the whisky trips have attracted plenty of interest from iron-stomached Belgians. Mr Newey added: “We’re delighted to have such a strong response to the themed crossings and I’m sure our whisky travellers are in for a very enjoyable experience.” DFDS Seaways announced the end of its passenger service between Rosyth to Zeebrugge after taking over Norfolkline earlier in the year.
