The Hebrides islands are arguably some of the most beautifully untouched landscape to be found anywhere in the UK. The Isle of Skye is a particularly popular choice, with the Cuillin mountains and dramatic scenery attracting tourists from all over the globe. Visitors to Skye will be delighted to hear of the unveiling of a new £12M ferry terminal for the nearby Isle of Raasay. Travel between the two idyllic islands will now be a simple task, with a Caledonian MacBrayne car ferry servicing the route regularly from now on.
The terminal replaces a nearby slipway, deteriorating in condition day by day. Highway Council decided upon the new project a few months ago and with the aid of strong funding, the terminal will open following the rebuilding of historic Raasay House just a few miles away on the island.
Transport minister Stewart Stephenson was more than happy to comment, declaring: “It is a vital boost for the area and in these challenging times will make a valuable contribution to both the local and national economy”. The news underlines the growing demand for ferry travel across the UK and the Highland Council hopes that the new terminal will result in an increase in visitors to Skye and Raasay in the future.
