The MS Oscar Wilde cruise ferry, which sails between Rosslare and Cherbourg, has returned to active service one week earlier than planned. The Irish Ferries’ vessel had been sidelined for its annual dry-docking, but work on the ship was completed ahead of schedule.
Irish Ferries has now resumed its direct crossing to France one week early, attracting considerable interest from Irish passengers, ahead of the half-term school holidays. The ferry operator also plans to resume its Rosslare to Roscoff service in the run up to summer.
The Oscar Wilde offers plenty of activities for passengers heading to France, with the Wilde Nights cabaret proving especially popular. Children’s entertainers are also present on the vessel during summer crossings, with play areas, cinemas, a games room and family cabins also providing plenty of entertainment, rest and relaxation.
Irish Ferries expects renewed interest in ferry travel to France, following an immensely profitable year in 2010, during which time the Icelandic ash cloud and adverse weather conditions wreaked havoc on the air industry. The ferry operator believes that passengers who would normally fly to the continent – specifically France – may continue to travel by ferry following last year’s disruptions.
