Why Visit Holland?

If you’ve never been to Holland, you’re missing a treat. Flat, lush, laid-back, cosmopolitan – just some of the attributes Holland has to share with visitors. With much of its land below sea level, and a flat landscape, Holland provides and interesting destination.

There’s some beautiful architecture, progressive society with a “live and let live” attitude, and some fantastic shopping and dining out, all combining to provide a perfect location for a longer holiday or weekend break.

Holland is well served by ferries from the UK, and the biggest port is at Rotterdam (Europoort). You can sail here on a daily crossing operated by P&O Ferries from Hull, with a journey time of around 12 hours. The ship is well equipped with facilities for both families and those who would like to wind down with a good meal, and a drink at one of the bars.

DFDS also operate a ferry from Newcastle to Ijmuiden (Amsterdam), with a crossing time of around 16 1/2 hours. This saves the drive south to Hull, and is ideal for those living in the north of England or even Wales and Scotland.

Those further south can travel from Harwich to the Hook of Holland with Stena Line. This is a much shorter crossing of duration around 6 1/2 hours, so if you don’t enjoy longer crossings, this may be the choice for you.

No trip to Holland is complete without a visit to Amsterdam – Holland’s most fun city with world famous sites, including the infamous coffee shops and red light district, Van Gogh museum, Anne Frank house, and many more cultural attractions.
