After months of logistics, the planned DFDS Seaways move to acquire Norfolkline has finally gone through.
What does this mean for Norfolkline? The company will be rebranded as ‘DFDS’, in an attempt to create a strong, simple brand name. The full integration process is not expected to be completed until late 2012, although the company has reassured that the vast majority of the merge will be complete by the end of next year.
Just a few days ago, the first tangible signs of the takeover became apparent. The Norfolkline service from Belfast to Heysham, operated by the ferry previously known as ‘The Maersk Exporter’, has been rebranded as ‘Scotia Seaways’. The DFDS logo has now been imprinted on the ship’s funnel, on top of a brand new blue and white colour scheme.
Jens Skibsted Nielsen, Vice President of DFDS Seaways, announced: ‘`We are delighted with the new look Scotia Seaways. Our customers will enjoy a better service and greater choice. We look forward to this new and exciting era for our Irish Sea services.’
Clearly, both parties are satisfied with the takeover so far. It’ll be interesting to see how the takeover continues to develop over the next few months.
