New Year’s celebrations for large gatherings would be distinctly drab affairs without the spectacle of fireworks. As such, bosses of the Higher Ferry, which operates on the Dart in Dartmouth, are set to reward the local community with an onboard fireworks display rivalled only by Sydney. Well, perhaps not quite on that scale – but there will be a few bangers and Roman candles sparkling over the Dart, which ought to look pretty impressive.
Manager of the Higher Ferry, Kerry Southern, claimed the fireworks display was a thank you to passengers and locals. Mr Southern said: “The display will be held at quarter past midnight, giving everyone enough time to make their way down from their homes, or the pubs, to the riverside. It will take place on the ferry so the best place to enjoy all the action will be from the Dartmouth slip.”
Describing the treat in store for Dartmouth residents, Mr Southern added: “The display will contain a mixture of comets, candles and large aerial shell bursts that should provide a stunning finale to the town’s celebrations. In order to set the display on the ferry, the last ferry from Dartmouth on New Year’s Eve will be at 9.45pm and at 9.50pm from Kingswear.”
