As ferry services across Britain experience disruption due to the adverse weather conditions, Condor Ferries has issued an advance apology to passengers travelling between France and the Channel Islands ahead of anticipated delays. Unlike other ferry operators in the UK, however, Condor Ferries has issued the apology not in consequence of the wintry weather but after technical faults struck one of its vessels.
Condor Ferries has stated that a failure in one of four engines on the Condor Express is to blame. Unfortunately, it is not possible to repair the engine until the vessel is dry docked in January. Normally operating between the Channel Islands and mainland UK, the Condor Express has been moved to the shorter route between the islands and France. Although the switch is expected to cause the “least possible disruption,” passengers hoping to avoid the Arctic weather problems that have blighted travel services throughout Britain are likely to be disappointed that a maintenance issue will affect the crossing to France.
Condor Ferries’ Channel Islands manager, Ian Milner, said: “We understand the importance of helping our customers get to their destinations over the holiday period and this plan has been prepared to minimise customer disruption. We are sorry for any delay that these technical problems may cause our passengers.”
